Virtual Workshop

Invite guests to join you for a webinar or teleseminar and have them work through activities, tasks, or steps that will deliver some value to them by the end of the workshop. I saw this done well by one of my earliest online mentors, Jeff Herring, who teaches article marketing. Here’s how he ran his call using a webinar service (see Way 10). You can follow this model for your own workshop and make money as he did:

Virtual Workshop

Invite guests to join you for a webinar or teleseminar and have them work through activities, tasks, or steps that will deliver some value to them by the end of the workshop. I saw this done well by one of my earliest online mentors, Jeff Herring, who teaches article marketing. Here’s how he ran his call using a webinar service (see Way 10). You can follow this model for your own workshop and make money as he did:

Step 1

Welcome participants and introduce the call. Right after the welcome, share your personal story— called the ETR or “earn the right” story—so people know why they should listen to you.

Step 2

Invite the participants to interact with you and explain how they can do so.

Step 3

Present content: definitions and descriptions.

Step 4

Provide instructions and time during the workshop to complete one or more activities or tasks that will be of value to the participants by the end of the workshop. Play instrumental “working music” while participants complete each activity or task.

Step 5

Continue to invite interaction by asking the audience members to share via chat box what they completed and provide feedback, reinforcement of the lesson, encouragement, and correction when necessary. Use first names of those engaging with you to build “social proof” and rapport with them.

Step 6

Present an offer in line with the content of the workshop. Tell participants what they will receive, how it will help them continue the work from the call, how to get it, and exactly what to do now. Give participants a compelling reason to invest in your offer before the call ends and be sure to provide and explain the details of a guarantee.

Step 7

Answer questions, monitor sales, and welcome by name those who invested in the program. Continue to encourage sales and reinforce the end-of-call deadline.

Charge admission

Write a sales page and sell admission to your virtual workshop. Participants will pay in advance to join you. In that case, you can choose not to sell anything further during your workshop or you can upsell continued coaching, consulting, or mentoring (see Way 13), a mastermind program, or advanced training.

Upsell from free

Hold the workshop for free and, following the steps above, sell a product or service during the virtual workshop.

Be an affiliate

Be an affiliate for someone else, and allow him or her to introduce the workshop to your community for free. Most will follow a similar format to that described above. You will likely earn 50 percent commission for sending about three email invitations over the course of a week or so, introducing the presenter and sharing a few comments while the presenter does most of the heavy lifting.

Recruit affiliates

Reach out to others who have audiences similar to yours and invite them to be your affiliates and introduce you to their communities. Follow the steps above and give your hosts a generous commission (again, 50 percent is common) for marketing you to their people.
