Chapter 14

The Sojourn at Gandharv

It took them over fifteen days to reach Lonar, the second largest city of Gandharv kingdom. This is where Amatya’s family was located after he had migrated to Gandharv. Acharya Parashu had agreed that it might be a good place for all of them to rest and recuperate before deciding further plans. Amatya had deliberately navigated his ship along a circuitous sea route to mislead any potential pursuers. Fortunately the journey was relatively uneventful except for the inclement weather on the way. The bad weather might have also actually helped shake off any attempts by Daityan vimāns to intercept them on high seas. While in the ship, Acharya Parashu’s wound on the shoulder had been attended to by Agastya Rishi himself. They had disembarked from Amatya’s ship at a discrete beach near the port town of Kambhoj before continuing on a four days journey on land up to Lonar. Amatya’s contacts within the town had helped them purchase a few horses, to speed up their travel along the trade route.

The daring rescue of Agastya from Atalantpuri by two Bheeshma monks was rejoiced throughout Devarth. Special words of appreciation were sent by Indra. From Devan perspective, it was definitely a strategic advantage that Rishi Agastya would no longer be available to help their enemy continue the development of Kayakalp rejuvenation system and its possible misuse for military applications. Brihaspati had himself come up to Lonar in a Devan vimān to meet them. He had a detailed discussion with Agastya regarding the state of progress made by Daityas in various scientific endeavours. He was also somewhat disappointed about their inability to gather any tangible information regarding the suspected mole within Devan leadership. The Gandharv King Dwapar had reassured Amatya and Prahalad that they would be given all assistance to start any business of their choice. Prahalad had got his family along and hoped to start a new life within Gandharv itself.

At last Haŕa could get to be with Brihaspati alone for a moment. The Dev Guru actually pre-empted what was in Haŕa’s mind ever since his return from Atalantpuri “I’d met Uma few weeks back and she was exceedingly anxious about you. I had suggested that to keep her mind steady, it may be best that she continued her dance lessons at the Apsara Academy of Lonar.”

“Are you saying Uma is actually here at Lonar?” Haŕa asked with obvious elation.

“Yes Haŕa, she came over here two days after you embarked on this mission from Amaravati. She may not be able to contact you on her own, without creating a scandal. However if you wish to visit the Apsara Academy, that shouldn’t be a problem.” Brihaspati smiled back and then continued “They may even let you join one of their dance training programmes. It would be most interesting to see a Bheeshma monk dancing, instead of fighting.” Brihaspati laughed aloud while patting Haŕa’s back.

A few days later, Amatya came to visit Acharya Parashu and Haŕa. The Gandharv King had
